I am a 22-year-old artist from Clackmannanshire, Scotland, currently in my fourth year at the Glasgow School of Art, specialising in painting and printmaking. My early interest in creativity led me to enjoy Art, Music, Photography, and Graphic Design during secondary school, paving the way for my Fine Art education.

My work explores themes of music, identity, nature, and pop culture, blending abstract brushwork with realism to create expressive pieces.

I’ve been busy working on my course at the Glasgow School of Art, focusing on a new series of paintings. I’ve been revisiting old photos, transforming small, mundane, and intimate moments into artwork. I’m thinking of titling the series “A Time and Place” — it feels like a good fit to me. This project has been a lot of fun and quite different from my usual work. So far I’ve completed a few pieces featuring myself as a child and some of my surrounding family. Today, I started adding colour to the collaborative wall mural at the Orchard Care Home in Tullibody! The staff and residents chose an “Exotic Bird” theme to help brighten up the space. I’ve begun by blocking in colours and defining the rough shapes. Next week, in partnership with the Lornshill Academy Art Department, we’ll refine the details and hopefully bring the mural to completion! This is my first large-scale outdoor mural I’ve worked on, making it an exciting learning experience for me. Following the launch of my art exhibition at @loudandclearedi, I’ve been honoured with formal recognition and congratulations from the Scottish Parliament! On 27 November 2024, Alexander Stewart MSP submitted a motion supported by many congratulating me on the opening of my exhibition. Here’s what it said: “That the Parliament congratulates Wee County artist, Kyle Blain, from Clackmannan, on the opening of an exhibition of his work in the Edinburgh music shop, Loud & Clear; understands that the music shop approached Kyle after seeing his work online and offered him the chance to have his art shown off in Edinburgh; notes that the works were installed on 16 November 2024 and are expected to be displayed until January 2025; understands that Kyle is currently in his fourth year at Glasgow School of Art and spends his spare time volunteering at schools across the Wee County; commends Kyle for recently being offered the chance to work on art projects with Paolo Nutini, and wishes him all the very best in his future career.” I am very grateful for the kind words, receiving recognition at this level is deeply encouraging and a milestone moment I really appreciate! At the end of 2022, my grandad fell seriously ill and spent much of 2023 in intensive care at Forth Valley Hospital. Despite the tireless efforts of the incredible doctors and nurses, he sadly passed away on 1st March 2024. During his time there, he always kept his spirits high and joked with me about painting the hospital walls to brighten his surroundings. After he passed, I wanted to honour his memory and thank the staff who cared for him so compassionately. I thought I could create a painting to donate to the hospital, both as a tribute to him and a gesture of gratitude. With the help of @artlinkcentral, a charity that supplies and curates artwork in the hospital, I was able to bring this idea to life. The painting, now set to be installed in Ward B31, depicts a mother bear with her three cubs—symbolising the love and strength of family. To further support the hospital, I’ve created 50 limited edition prints of this painting, with 100% of the profits being donated to Forth Valley Hospital. If you’d like to own a piece of this tribute and support their incredible work, this is a meaningful way to do so. These are available on my website! This project has been incredibly meaningful to me, and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to honour my grandad in this way. ❤️

I’m excited to share that my work is now up and exhibiting at the @loudandclearedi shop in Leith, Edinburgh, from mid-November to early January! It’s an incredible opportunity to showcase a variety of my paintings, which will be available to view and purchase at 94 Commercial St, EH6 6LX. Check shop website for opening times! This collection includes some of my music-themed pieces, as well as a few never-before-seen works. My art explores themes of music, identity, nature, and pop culture, combining abstract brushstrokes with expressive realism. I’ll also be attending Loud & Clear’s 25th Anniversary Celebration on December 5th. It’s set to be a lively day between noon and 8 pm, with drinks, great music, seasonal food, and more. I’ll have prints and other products on sale, so it’s a perfect time to stop by, say hello, and check out my work in person. If you’re visiting the Christmas markets in Edinburgh, the shop isn’t far from the city centre by tram so feel free to come along! It’s been a long time since I used watercolours, so it was an exciting challenge! I’m super excited to announce that I’ll be exhibiting my work at the @loudandclearedi shop in Leith, Edinburgh! Here’s a recent painting I completed for my series of works based on old photographs from the 2000’s. It’s another photo of me as a toddler, but what caught my attention was the silhouette of the cat in the background, which is why I decided to paint it. I’m not sure exactly where this series is going but I’m enjoying the journey with it so far.
